Each glass disc suspension insulator is assembled from three primary components:
Tempered glass component – Provides the core electrical insulation and offers the self-breaking characteristic for easy fault detection
Iron cap – Provides mechanical connection and protection for the glass component
Steel foot – Serves as the attachment point for the conductor or adjacent insulator
During assembly, a soft gasket is placed at the top of the steel foot, and an asphalt layer is applied where the iron cap inner cavity contacts the cement adhesive. These elements buffer thermal expansion and contraction, preventing damage during temperature fluctuations and ensuring long-term structural integrity.
