Standard Disc-Type Suspension Glass Insulators

Standard glass insulators are a common type suitable for general transmission environments. They offer excellent insulation properties and mechanical strength, capable of withstanding both working voltages and overvoltage effects. Additionally, they can bear the vertical load, horizontal load, and tension of conductors. Standard glass insulators feature relatively small creepage distances, making them suitable for areas with minimal light pollution.

Standard disc-t'y'pe suspension glass insulators are insulating devices used in power transmission and distribution lines. They have the feature of self-breaking at zero value, which makes them easy to observe and eliminates the need for climbing poles to check each piece, thus reducing maintenance costs and labor intensity. They also have good resistance to electric arcs and vibration, maintaining sufficient insulation performance and mechanical strength even after being struck by lightning. They have excellent self-cleaning properties, making them less prone to dirt accumulation and aging. They have a large main capacity and uniform voltage distribution in strings, which helps to reduce radio interference, corona loss, and extend service life.

The design service life of standard disc-shaped suspension glass insulators is usually no less than 30 years. In actual applications, if the usage environment is good and maintenance is proper, their service life can reach 40 to 50 years or even longer. The core factors affecting their service life mainly include the following:

  • In clean and dry areas such as plains or rural regions, insulators are less likely to accumulate dirt or moisture, and their aging process is slower, resulting in a longer service life. In contrast, in harsh environments like industrial pollution areas or coastal salt spray zones, the corrosion of glass components and the decline in insulation performance are accelerated, shortening the service life.
  • Maintenance level: Standard glass insulators have the characteristic of self-breaking at zero value. If maintenance personnel promptly replace the self-broken insulator pieces, it can prevent adjacent insulators from bearing additional loads, ensuring the stable operation of the entire string and extending the overall service life.
  • Product quality: High-quality glass raw materials, precise gluing processes, and strict anti-corrosion treatment of steel caps and feet are the foundation for the long-term stable operation of insulators. Inferior products may experience premature self-breaking or a decline in mechanical strength due to internal bubbles or gluing cracks.
